Our foster care program, in Cartersville, GA, is taking donations for precious special needs foster children so they may have a very special holiday this year!
Want to help but live too far away? You can donate online at www.Meritan.org and designate for the Cartersville, GA office!
Here's a bit from an article in their local newspaper...... or you can read it all here.
"With Christmas around the corner, Bartow County Division of Family and Children Services and Meritan Inc. are reaching out to the public to help meet the wish lists of more than 300 youth in state custody.
To support Meritan’s efforts to assist 62 foster care children, area residents can select an ornament adorning the Christmas tree at Swheat Market Deli, 5 E. Main St. in Cartersville. Along with the children’s first names, the ornaments contain their ages and desired presents.
“We are a specialized foster care, meaning that we take children that have behavioral needs or medical needs,” said Shemaria Garcia, recruiter trainer for Meritan. “... The foster parents get training mostly to ensure that they are meeting the needs of the kids.
“We have children [with] ages ranging from ... [7 months to 21 years], so we have a wide range of children in our care. We do also have families that take medically fragile children that may be wheelchair bound. Several of our families also in the process will adopt a child that’s in their home.”
Once purchased, the gifts — totaling $50 to $75 — need to be delivered to Meritan, 920-A N. Tennessee St. in Cartersville, by Friday. In addition to donating gifts, area residents also can sponsor a child for Christmas, by making a donation of $10, $25 or $50."
